Tapping Golden Talent

The Talent Squeeze Is On

Since 2003, some forward thinking companies like Proctor & Gamble and Eli Lilly have quietly cultivated a highly talented and prize workforce resource, retirees.

Faced with the reality of millions of retirees leaving the workforce, these organization have supported internal web recruitment techniques to lure the talent back as contractors, consultants, etc.

The problem was identifying the available talent pool available. So, the two companies launched YourEncore.com. "Companies can bring back highly skilled people that provide value immediately (through YourEncore.com)," reports Donna Wadleigh, Manager of Member Services.

Other web sites have sprung up since. >>Seniors4Hire.org stated in 2003.
>>Enrge.us focuses solely on retired US government experts.
>> SeniorJobBank.com hosts 5,000 visitors per day.
>> Dinosaur-Exchange.com is an international job search resouce.

Companies need to prepare for the close monitoring and recruitment of retirees. These are just a few resources with which to start.

Google Grabs University Library Project to Digitize 10 Million Volumes

The University of Minnesota, along with the 11 other leading Midwest universities in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), have entered into an agreement with Google to digitize up to 10 million bound volumes, nearly doubling the number of universities participating in the Google Books Library Project.

The distinctive collections the U of M will have digitized could include, for example, Scandinavian history, literature and culture; forestry; bee-keeping; medicine, including oncology, radiology and pediatrics.

This collaborative approach brings together the holdings of some of the world's largest libraries into one massive digital resource. The CIC includes the University of Minnesota, University of Chicago, University of Illinois, Indiana University, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Northwestern University, Ohio State University, Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“The University of Minnesota is making history today,” said University of Minnesota Provost Thomas Sullivan. “For our students and researchers, speedy access to printed volumes will change the face and pace of scholarly research.”

“With this agreement, the university joins the ranks of prestigious institutions like Harvard University, Stanford University and Oxford University, which already are participating in the Google Book Search project,” Sullivan said.

Ceridian Picks GeoLearning

Ceridian Adds GeoLearning’s SaaS Learning Technology Platform to Its HR Outsourcing Offering
